What Remains (tanka)*

unforgotten love

lingers after it departs

remains in the heart

photographs now left behind

remains of what once was us

*Note: Photographs are the physical remains of our memories of people and places we loved. Where a moment of happiness is preserved forever. My song choice is Photographs and Memories by Jim Croce. One of my favorite artists, died at the age of 30 (at the height of his career) in a plane crash, like many before him and after.

  1. I sense bits of sadness….Words are flowing while I’m speechless….it connects me to this feeling kinda threadless…I know it wasn’t just pure madness….it shows me a reflection….so I become a bit breathless….I love this tanka of yours, dear Elle….it’s simply cleansing me πŸ–€πŸ’«πŸ’™πŸ™βœ¨

    1. Yes there is a sadness but behind it is a memory of joy. I’m happy it opened something within you, Navin. Thank you πŸ™πŸΌπŸ˜ŠπŸ’™πŸ’«πŸŒ»

  2. This is beautiful, Elle and so true. It’s truly a blessing to have photos of our loved ones, especially when they are no longer with us. We can look at the photos which bring back the memories.

  3. I so love this, My Dear! Exquisite! Especially your line “unforgotten love”. A perfect capture of what remains in our hearts. Love never dies. We just keep “old loves” hidden in the heart so the mind will not find them”. Bellissimo!
