Reflection in Marble (tanka)*

warm as human flesh~

chiseled form displays mother’s~

deep love for her son~

gently held within her arms~

exhibits fragility~

*Note: The word Pietà finds its origins in the Italian word for “pity” and the Latin word for “piety”, giving it a sense of “compassion” and “devotion” altogether. Apparent from the depiction of Mary and her dead son in her lap, the compassion of the mother towards her dead son is quite obvious. My musical choice is I love Air by Bach & Pietà by Michelangelo. The video shows detailed features of the sculpture and its humanistic elements.

    1. Thank you, Navin, much appreciated. I love the music, it’s as beautiful as the sculpture and brings a sense of tranquility. 🙏🏼😊💙💫

  1. Yes, they are. Tears came to my eyes when I saw Jesus’ face and thought of how Mary must have felt when she watched her beloved Son die. It’s the most painful thing for a parent to go through. Thanks. You have yourself a blessed Easter too 🙂
